With its three ancient hearts, the Locmaria district, the city of the bishops and those of the Dukes of Brittany, Quimper is a city that can be visited on foot, by strolling along its lively medieval streets and shops. There are also many factory shops, such as those of Faïenceries Henriot-Quimper and Armor Lux. It should also be noted that Quimper has three permanent museums: the Museum of Fine Arts, the Breton Departmental Museum as well as the Museum of Earthenware.

Alternating long and beautiful sandy beaches, steep cliffs and rocky coasts, fishing and yachting harbours, theCornouaille coast stretches from Pont-Aven to the Pointe du Raz. It is certainly one of the most beautiful in Brittany and France.

From the Pointe du Raz to that of Lervily, in the north-west of the Cornouaille coast, the shoreline is wind-swept and the coastline steep. Cliffs and rocks are constantly battered by the waves. The walled city, the name given to the oldest part of the city because of the ramparts that enclose it, resembles a fortified island set in the middle of one of the most beautiful bays in the region. The painter Gauguin is at the origin of the Pont Aven school, a group so named that gathered together under the same label all the artists who regularly came to paint in Pont Aven.

Today, the small town of Pont Aven is home to many art galleries thus perpetuating the “Bohemian” spirit of yesteryear in the town that is now nicknamed the “City of Painters”.
